Commandos 3 TutorialUsing Mods

The nice thing about Commandos 3 modding is, all the game files are in .PCK files. Unlike with other games where you may have to edit these files and risk messing up your game, Commandos 3 isn't like that.

When the game wants to load a file, it looks through the Data folder in the Commandos 3 directory (Default =
C:\Program Files\Eidos\Pyro Studios\Commandos 3 - Destination Berlin).

The game rarely finds the file there, because there are not many files in there, so it moves onto the .PCK files where its guaranteed to find it.

This means to use a modded file, you just have to put it in the Data folder in the Commandos 3 directory, keeping the same folder structure as the .PCK file you extracted it from.

Example
You have just extracted CREDITS.STR from DATA.PCK because you want to edit the game credits.
The .PCK file structure (This is shown in Dragon UnPACKer) was DATA/STR/CREDITS.STR
Now just create a folder called STR in the Data folder of your Commandos 3 directory, then paste CREDITS.STR into this.
The location of the file will look like this
C:\Program Files\Eidos\Pyro Studios\Commandos 3 - Destination Berlin\Data\STR\CREDITS.STR
Now Commandos 3 will use this file instead of the default one in the .PCK file.

Modding
When modding, if you want to test your file(s), just do like the example, put the file(s) in your Data directory, keeping the .PCK file structure.

Handy
This is very handy because if you have made a mistake when modding, instead of the game crashing because the file isn't right, it just skips your file and uses the default file in the .PCK file.

Installing
To install a mod, you just put the files in the folders the readme tells you to.

Uninstalling
To uninstall a mod, you just delete the files in the folders the readme tells you to.
